Prioritize Your Dental Health: Take Care of Your Teeth and Gums

Prioritizing routine teeth cleaning and checkups is essential for maintaining not only the health of your teeth but also your gums and overall oral well-being. Here’s why it matters:

Comprehensive Cleaning: Regular teeth cleaning helps remove plaque, tartar, and harmful bacteria that can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and persistent bad breath. Hygienists can access areas that may be challenging to reach with your daily brushing and flossing routine, ensuring a thorough clean.

Early Problem Detection: A thorough cleaning and dental exam provide hygienists and dentists with the ideal opportunity to monitor your oral health. They can identify and address issues before they become painful or costly to treat. Early detection and intervention are key to preventing complications.

Natural Whitening: Routine teeth cleaning can enhance the natural whiteness and brightness of your teeth, reducing the need for bleaching treatments.

Plaque and Tartar Removal: Teeth cleaning eliminates plaque, a sticky substance containing bacteria that can erode your enamel. It also removes tartar buildup, which is hardened plaque that can lead to gum disease.

Stain Removal: If your teeth have stains from coffee, tea, or other substances, teeth cleaning can help lift and remove these stains, leaving your smile looking brighter.

Monitoring Oral Health: During your checkup, your dentist can check for various signs of oral health issues, such as receding gums, chipped or broken teeth, or other indicators of disease and infection.

By prioritizing regular teeth cleaning and checkups, you can maintain a healthy and radiant smile while proactively addressing potential dental concerns before they escalate.

What to Expect During a Teeth Cleaning

A teeth cleaning is a crucial step in maintaining your oral health. Here’s a breakdown of what typically happens during this essential dental procedure:

Gum Health Assessment:

Your gums play a vital role in supporting your teeth and framing your smile. The dental team will closely examine your tongue, gums, teeth, and all areas of your mouth, with a particular focus on the gum line. This assessment aims to ensure the overall health of your mouth, identifying any signs of inflammation or potential gum disease. Don’t worry; we’re here to support you, not scold you about your flossing habits.

Plaque & Tartar Removal

Plaque is a soft, sticky film that accumulates on your teeth. When not removed through regular brushing, flossing, and professional care, it can harden into tartar deposits. Tartar is often darker in color and tends to accumulate in challenging-to-reach areas like the gumline. A skilled hygienist possesses the tools and expertise to delicately remove stubborn plaque and tartar from these hard-to-access spots. Once plaque and tartar are cleared away, your teeth can be polished to eliminate stains, leaving your smile gleaming.

Dentist Examination

Following the cleaning, it’s the perfect time for a dentist to examine your teeth. Your dentist will review your dental chart and any X-rays, focusing on problem areas or concerning patterns. They may recommend additional treatments or offer guidance on how to mitigate or reverse tooth decay, inflammation, or gum disease. This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions or discuss any discomfort, sensitivity, or dental pain you may have experienced.

The Cost of Teeth Cleaning in Halifax: Investing in Your Oral Health

Regular dental checkups and cleanings are vital for preventing dental issues, and they are often covered by insurance companies as part of routine care, typically every 6 months. However, if you do not have dental insurance, here’s what you can expect in terms of cost:

  • Without dental insurance, the cost of a teeth cleaning in Halifax can range from $120 to $300 or more, especially if it’s your first visit or your first cleaning in a long time.

The actual cost of your treatment is determined by several factors, including:

  1. Your Current Oral Health: The condition of your teeth and gums plays a role in determining the extent of the cleaning required.
  2. X-Rays: Depending on your oral health history, new x-rays may be needed, which can impact the overall cost.
  3. Time Required: The amount of time the dental team needs to address your specific needs can influence the cost.
  4. Equipment and Supplies: The use of specialized equipment and supplies also factors into the overall cost of the cleaning.

These routine appointments are essential for maintaining your oral health, preventing more invasive treatments, and avoiding serious dental issues and pain. Investing in regular cleanings helps keep your smile happy and healthy.

I had a wonderful experience at Sublime Dentistry. Tina was so lovely and efficient and easy to work with! The dental hygienist, Madison, was effective but gentle and took the time to ensure I understood what she was doing and why. Dr. Ryan was very kind and clearly very knowledgable. She did a great job calming my anxiety about not having been to a dentist for a few years and was so easy to chat with. Overall, I highly recommend!
